The top five worst words in the south west region are in Windsor and Sarnia, again.
The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) released the results of its 2025 Worst Roads Campaign on Thursday.
The title of worst road in the region goes to Banwell Road in Windsor.
Assistant Vice President, Government and Community Relations for CAA South Central Ontario Teresa Di Felice said it's the first time Banwell Road has appeared on the list.
"So we're pretty excited about that one because maybe it's on track for some relief," said Di Felice. "In some of our follow up and investigative work on the roads that were nominated and that make it to these top distinctions, we understand that some major design work has been planned for Banwell."
Blackwell Sideroad in Sarnia is once again among the worst roads in the region.
In 2024, the road was ranked as the third worst.
"Blackwell Sideroad has moved up to number two on the south west regional top five," said Di Felice. "The reason that people are taking to the CAA Worst Roads Campaign to nominate it is based on potholes and poor road maintenance."
Sarnia's Michigan Avenue came in third this year, followed by Windsor's Riverside Drive in fourth and Vidal Street South in Sarnia in fifth.
Di Felice said participation in the campaign was up this year.
"This year we saw an increase in the number of roads nominated. In 2024, there were 2,000 roads nominated, this year in 2025 we've had 2,400 roads nominated in 208 municipalities which is also an increase."
The majority of respondents were motorists, followed by cyclists and pedestrians.
"Predominately the top reasons that people do take to the campaign, over 80 per cent are nominating roads because of potholes and then it's the poor road surface at 77 per cent and then traffic congestion is another reason."
Aberdeen Avenue in Hamilton was named the worst road in Ontario for the second year in a row.
The 22nd annual Worst Roads Campaign ran from March 25 to April 18.
